         Visit Marina second largest Beach in the world -
The Marina Beach, the pride of Chennai is the second longest beach in the world and has a wide sandy shore. Situated on the beach, are the Samadhi or memorials dedicated to C.N.Annadurai and M.G.Ramachandran, both former Chief Ministers of the state. They attract thousands of visitors everyday. Some of the most beautiful buildings in Chennai such as the University of Madras, the Senate House, Chepauk Palace, Presidency College and the Ice House are located on the beach drive.

                     Visit Fort st.George - Fort st.George occupies pride of place and
prominence in Chennai. This bastion derived its name form St. George, the patron saint of England. The State Legislature and the Secretariat are located inside this fort . The St. Mary’s Church, the oldest Anglican Church in India built in 1680 is situated here. The tombstones in its courtyard are some of the oldest British tombstones in India. The weddings of Robert Clive and Governor Elihu Yale, who later founded the famous Yale University in the U.S.A were solemnised in this ancient prayerhouse.

Kanchipuram (75 kms from Chennai) is one of the seven holy cities in the
country and a visit is believed to bestow salvation. Kanchipuram once had over a thousand temples. Today, there are more than a hundred extant, and all are worth a visit. Kanchipuram also has some notable churches and mosques.

Day 03 Chennai – Pondicherry (163 kms / 3 hrs approx)

Leave for Pondicherry by surface enroute visit Mahabalipuram.
Though it is no longer a port, Mamallapuram has retained its fame in stone, thanks to the great contribution of Pallava artisans. It is among the most outstanding examples of Dravidian art and architecture and a jewel in the crown of Tamil Nadu. In a land that is liberally strewn with some of the best in temple art, Mamallapuram holds its own, and stands as a silent yet eloquent witness to the glory of its creators. Unfortunately most of the work was left incomplete, and time and nature have also eroded the remains of this once great port.

                      Visit Sri Aurobindo Ashram
The Ashram was set up in 1926 by Sri Aurobindo Ghose, one of India’s greatest philosopher-poets, who originally came to Pondy to escape persecution by the British. It was after arriving in Puducherry, that he was drawn into the spiritual realm and discovered the power of yoga. His philosophy deeply rooted in yoga and his writings inspired a number of followers.

                      Visit Sri Brahadeesware temple
Sri Brahadeeswarar Temple This is also called the Big Temple and it is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The great Chola king Raja Raja I (985-1012 A.D) built this temple. It is an outstanding example of the Chola architecture. Its unique architectural excellence has made the UNESCO to declare it a World Heritage Monument. The 64.8 meters tall vimanam or the tower over the sanctum sanctorum is a testimony to the engineering skill of the Cholas. In keeping the immensity of the temple the gigantic mahalingam in the shrine measures 4 meters in height. The monolithic Nandi, or the bull mount of Lord Shiva has been chiselled out of single rock. It is the second largest Nandi in India. The beautiful Chola Fresco paintings on the inner walls of the temple are no way less than Ajanta paintings.

Srirangam CauverySrirangam: The most important pilgrim centre in the district is located on an island just 7 kms from Tiruchirappalli. Srirangam, surrounded by the waters of the River Kaveri on one side and its tributary the River Kollidam on the other, is a 600-acre island-town enclosed within the seven walls of the gigantic Sri Ranganatha Swamy Temple. This is the seat of the pontiff of the Vaishnavite, who are the worshippers of Lord Vishnu

Tiruvanaikkaval (7 kms):
The temple here has a Shiva lingam almost submerged in water and is meant to Tiruchi Fortrepresent God incarnate as water. The water flows from a subterranean spring into the sanctum sanctorum.
The Lord's name Jambukeswarar is derived from a legend that an elephant once worshipped Lord Shiva under the holy Jambu tree.

                      Visit Meenakashi Temple
Sri Meenakshi-Sundareswarar Temple Synonymous with Madurai is the Meenakshi Sundareswarar twin-temple. It is the pivot around which the city has evolved. The Meenakshi Temple complex is literally a city on its own. It is one of the largest of its kind in India and undoubtedly one of the oldest too. The temple grew bigger with the contributions of each dynasty and victorious monarchs, into an enormous complex extending over an area of 65000 sq. meters.
The temple was first built 2000 years ago and was substantially expanded during the reign of Thirumalai Nayak between the years (1623-55 AD).

                                  Visit Nayak Thirumalai Palace Thirumalai Nayak Mahal     About 1.5kms from the Meenakshi temple is this palace that was built in 1636 by the ruler who’s named it bears. The imposing edifice is famous for the stuccowork on its domes and impressive arches. The Sorga Vilasam or the Celestial Pavilion, measuring 75mx52m, is constructed entirely of brick and mortar without the support of a single rafter or girder. It is a marvel of Indo Saracenic architectural style. Among the other striking features of the palace are the massive white pillars, several of which line the corridor that runs along the courtyard. Connected by well-decorated arches, these pillars measure 20m in height and have a circumference of 4m

                      Visit Chinese fishing nets
Chinese Fishing nets: The Chinese fishing nets found here are the only ones of its kind in India. It is believed that traders from the court of the Chinese ruler Kublai Khan introduced these nets here.  Erected here between 1350 and 1450 AD by traders from the court of Kublai Khan, these nets are set up on Teak wood and bamboo poles.  The best place to watch the nets being lowered into the sea and catch being brought in is the Vasco da Gama Square, a narrow promenade that runs along the beach.  The Square is ideal place to idle, with stalls serving fresh delicious sea food, tender coconut etc.

                      visit Dutch Palace
Dutch Palace: The Dutch Palace was originally built by the Portuguese. Later, in 17th century, the Dutch modified it and presented to the Raja of Kochi. Coronation of many Rajas of Kochi were held here. The place has a fine collection of mural paintings depicting the scenes from the Hindu epics Mahabharata and Ramayana.

Day 11 Cochin – Bangalore by flight and Bangalore – Mysore by surface (139 kms / 3 hrs approx)

In time transfer to airport to board flight to Bangalore
Meet and Greet at airport and leave for Mysore by surface enroute visit Sringapatna.
The island fortress of the legendary warrior king Tipu Sultan is just 16km from Mysore city. Inside the fortress is Tipu's mosque with its twin minarets, the
celebrated Ranganatha Swamy Temple, Tipu's Summer Palace, the Wellesley Bridge, and the dungeons where British officers were once imprisoned. Equally impressive is the ornate white-domed Gumbaz, an imposing structure with doors of ebony inlaid with ivory and lacquered with Tipu's tiger-striped emblem. About 1km to the east of the fort is Tipu's Summer Palace (known as the Daria Daulat Bagh) set amidst a lovely garden.

-          Visit Mysore palace - Built in Indo-Saracenic style, with domes, turrets, arches, and colonnades, the palace is a treasure house of exquisite carvings and works of art from all over the world. Known as Amba Vilas Palace, it was designed by Henry Irwin, the British consultant architect of Madras state, and completed in 1912 on the site of the old wooden palace that was destroyed by fire in 1897.

Day 13 Mysore – Hassan (115 kms / 4 hrs approx)

Leave for Hassan by surface enroute visit Sravanabelgola, a prominent Jain pilgrim centre in Hassan district. Shravanabelagola is home to Asia's largest monolithic statue - Lord Gomateswara here towers 58ft.,
 looming atop the picturesque Vindhyagiri Hill. Every 12 years, Jain pilgrims gather here to participate in the colourful Maha Mastakabhisheka of the Lord, the splendid head-anointing ceremony. From specially erected scaffolding, priests pour hundreds of pots of curd, milk, honey, vermilion, coconut water, turmeric paste, and even gold and precious jewels over the statue's head. Endowed with a rich cultural and historical Jain legacy, Karnataka has a cluster of Jain pilgrim centres. The main ones are: Karkala and Venur with huge Gomateswara statues; Mudabidri with the Thousand Pillars Basadi; Humcha with an ancient Jain Mutt; and Narasimharajapura and Belgaum with Jain basadis.

Belur - On the banks of the Yagachi river in Belur, a star-shaped temple with hand lathe-turned filigreed pillars and sculptures will take your breath away. It is the only Hoysala temple still in active worship.
Helibid - Just 17km away from Belur is Halebid, the ancient capital of the Hoysalas. The temple, perched on a star-shaped base amidst lawns, is a sculptural extravaganza.

Bangalore is one of the oldest cities and has oodles of heritage structures and places for the tourist to explore. You can experience the outstanding edifices created by rulers of Karnataka, finest designs of British architecture and fusion designs taken from Dravidian, Rajastan, Chola and Kannada.

                      Visit Vidhan Soudha ( Drive past only)
An imposing edifice housing the State Legislature and the Secretariat of Karnataka, this is one of the best-known landmarks of Bangalore. Vidhana soudha was built in 1956 and it is a fusion of architectural designs taken from Dravidian, Rajastan, Chola and Kannada.

                      Tipu’s Palace
Built in 1791, Tipu Sultan's summer retreat is a two-storied ornate wooden structure with fluted pillars, cusped arches, and balconies. It now houses a museum that contains artifacts relating to the Hyder-Tipu regime.
