Gorilla Tracking in Ruanda und / oder
Uganda in den schönsten Naturreservaten der
afrikanischen Welt gilt als eines der wenigen
verbleibenden Abenteuer für den verantwortungsvollen
Reisenden.
Die Gorillas leben in 4 verschiedenen Nationalparks in
Uganda, Ruanda und in der Volksrepublik Kongo. Wir
bieten Ihnen mit unserer Agentur ein einmaliges und tief
authentisches Erlebnis des Gorilla-Tracking in Uganda
und Ruanda.
In Uganda können die Gorillas im
Bwindi National Park und im Mgahinga National Park
gesehen werden.
Im Bwindi Park in Uganda sind 4 Habitatfamilien bekannt
- es werden maximal 32 Permits pro Tag ausgestellt.
Heimat der Gorillas sind die dichten Regenwälder mit zum
Teil steilen Berghängen sodass das Tracking von 3 bis 10
Stunden hier sehr anspruchsvoll und ein Herausforderung
sein mag.
Drei der Gorillafamilien (Mubare, Habinyania und
Rushegura) können über Buhoma im Norden besucht werden.
Ausgangspunkt ist hier eine mit großem Komfort
ausgestattete Bwindi-EcoLodge. Nach einem erfolgreichen
Tracking bietet die Lodge einen ausgezeichneten
Ausgangspunkt für den passionierten Vogelkundler und für
Botaniker.
Die 4. Familie in Nkuringo im südlichen Bwindipark wird
über Kisoro erreicht. Auch hier steht dem Gast eine mit
höchsten Komfort ausgestatteten Mount Gahinga Lodge als
Ausgangspunkt für das Tracking zur Verfügung. Diese
Familie erreichen Sie nur auf schwierigen Pfaden mit
steilen Aufstiegen und das Fährtengehen kann einen
ganzen Tag dauern. Diese Gorillafamilie wird von Mgahinga und Kisoro im südlichen Bwindi Park ausgehend
aufgesucht. Der Ausgangspunkt für diese Trackingtour
wird nach einer ca. 2 stündigen Fahrt mit
atemberaubenden Panorama erreicht.
Die Habitatfamilie in der Umgebung von Mgahinga kann
derzeit nicht aufgesucht werden. Diese Gruppe ist sehr
instabil trotz zugewanderter weiblichen Gorillas.
Mgahinga bietet aber einen ausgezeichneten Ausgangspunkt
für die einzigartigen Virunga Vulkane und für das
Tracking auf "Golden Monkeys".
Ruanda bietet zahlreiche Höhepunkte
seinen Gästen. Der Parc National des Volcans in den Virunga-Vulkanen ist Heimat der Berggorillas zu denen
Frau Dian Fossey ihr ganzes Leben gewidmet hat. Der
Nyungwe Regenwald stellt einen der größten Bergwälder
Zentralafrikas dar und ist für die große Anzahl von
Colobusaffen und einer reichen Vielzahl an Orchideen
bekannt. Hingegen stellt der Akagera National Park einen
savanneähnlichen Park dar mit hoher Elephanten-,
Flußpferden- und Krokodilpopulationen dar. An den
benachbarten Kivu-See schließt sich eine steil
terrassierte Landschaft an.
Der Parc National des Volcans wird auf der Seite Ruandas
von den Virunga-Vulkanen begrenzt. Fünf Vulkane erheben
sich auf ruandischer Seite, die außergewöhnliche
Attraktionen und Trails hinauf zu den Gipfeln bieten.
Derzeit leben 7 Gorillagruppen im Park und es werden
maximal 56 Permits pro Tag vergeben. Da die Gorillas
auch abwandern können ist die Vergabe der Permits
teilweise eingeschränkt. Im Park leben 7
Gorillafamilien, Gruppe 13, Sabinyo, Amahoro, Umubamo,
Susa, Kwitonda und Hirwa. Die meisten der Gruppen können
in einem halbtägigen Marsch von 5-7 Stunden aufgesucht
werden. Ausgangspunkt des Tracking ist die Virunga
Safari Lodge, die sich in Ruanda befindet mit Blick auf
die Virunga Berge und nicht wie manchmal geglaubt wird,
sich auf dem Territorium der Volksrepublik Kongo befindet.
Neben dem Gorillatracking ist das Tracking der Golden
Monkeys ein ganz besonderes Erlebnis. Diese wenig
bekannte Affenart gehört zu den am meisten gefährdeten
Primaten in Afrika und es wird heute davon ausgegangen,
dass diese Gattung nur hier in den Virungavulkanen
vorkommt. Eine kleine Population mag vermutlich im
Nyungwe Forest im Süden Ruandas vorkommen, doch dies
gilt als nicht gesichert.
Die Besucher haben die Möglichkeit zwei Gruppen zu
begegnen. Die Kabatwagruppe kommt im Osten des Parks vor
und ist an den Hängen des Sabinyo Vulkans in einer
Familiengröße mit bis zu 40 Primaten zu entdecken. Die
Musong Gruppe lebt in etwas größerer Höhe von ca. 2.800
- 3.000 m an den Flanken des Karisimbi Vulkans und
besteht aus ca. 100 Individuen. Die Musongo Gruppe kann
man in naher Zukunft aufsuchen.
Habitatbildung ist ein langwieriger Prozess den Menschen
in seiner Nähe zu dulden was nach langen Anstrengungen
erst im Jahre 2003 gelang. Heute schwatzen und spielen
die Primaten miteinander während sie beobachtet werden.
Sie verbringen Ihre Zeit damit, an der Vegetation ca.
2-3 m hoch zuklettern und Bambusschösslinge und Blätter
zu verspeisen. Die Heranwachsenden sind noch sehr klein
und ihre humorvollen Einlagen machen das Beobachten zur
Freude. Die Affen leben in der näheren Parkumgebung und
können bereits nach kurzen Pirschgängen entdeckt werden.
Das Tracking auf die Golden Monkeys ist ein ganz
besonderes Exkursionserlebnis in den nebligen
Virunguwäldern. Wie auch bei dem Tracking auf Gorillas
ist die Beobachtungs- und Verweilzeit bei den Golden
Monkeys auf maximal eine Stunde beschränkt. Maximal 6
Personen sind für ein Tracking erlaubt, es ist maximal 1
Besuch pro Tag erlaubt, der morgens gegen 07.30 Uhr vom
Parkbüro in Kinigi losgeht.

Eco-Lodges nahe der drei Gorilla-Parks an. Zur Zeit wird
an einer 4. Eco-Lodge gebaut, die Kyambura Gorge Lodge
in der Nähe einer Schimpansen Community. Die Eco-Lodgen
gehören zu den Besten in der Gegend.

ancient Indian concepts of harmonizing the energy of
buildings with the earth. Robin Pendleton, a designer
from New York, acts as a consultant to create locally

Itinerary
Day 1
Met by your Guide on arrival at the airport and transfer
to Kigali. Briefing on your safari. After lunch, depart
for Parc National des Volcans. The journey north goes
through the beautiful terraced hillsides that
characterise much of Rwanda’s landscape, gradually
climbing to the base of the awesome Virunga volcanoes,
sometimes with as many as five peaks visible. O/N:

Day 2
Go gorilla tracking in Parc National des Volcans (subject
to permit availability at the time of booking). Tracking
the gorillas through the light mountain forest on the
slopes of the Virungas is a magical experience. If you
are lucky you can get to the gorillas, spend an hour
with them, and be back at the base in time for a late
lunch! Some gorilla families however are more elusive,
and tracking can take a full day, especially when it is
wet and muddy. O/N:

Day 3
Either go gorilla tracking again in Parc National des
Volcans (on payment of supplement at time of booking),
or visit the golden monkeys or drive to Gisenyi, visit
Ros Carr's orphanage and Lake Kivu or climb the Visoke
or Muhavura volcanoes, or trek to Dian Fossey's grave,
or visit the local school, community projects or walk to
Lake Bulera. O/N:

Day 4
Leave for Kigali. Time permitting, go for a tour of the
city including a visit to the market, a pottery project,
handicraft shops and the genocide memorial. Transfer to
the airport (HB).

Day 1
Met on arrival at airport and transfer to Kigali.
Briefing on your safari. After lunch, depart for PNV at
2pm. The journey north goes through the beautiful
terraced hillsides that characterise much of Rwanda's
landscape, gradually climbing to the base of the awesome
Virunga volcanoes, sometimes with as many as five peaks

Either go gorilla tracking again, this time in Mgahinga/Nkuringo
(on payment of supplement at time of booking), or climb
a volcano, or go for a nature walk, or visit the golden
monkeys in Mgahinga. O/N:

Day 6
Drive to Bwindi through the Switzerland of Africa, with
the road winding through many hills and valleys, with
distant views of the volcanoes and lakes. Time
permitting go for a guided nature walk in the thick
forest rich in birds, butterflies and monkeys.
Alternatively go for a short stroll around the Lodge.

Day 7
Either go gorilla tracking (on payment of supplement at
the time of booking), walking up steep densely forested
hills before finally coming across the gorillas
camouflaged in the vegetation. An inspiring moment!
Tracking in Bwindi requires stamina and can often take
most of the day. Alternatively go for a leisurely nature
or community walk. O/N:

Day 8
Leave for Kigali in Rwanda via Kabale and Katuna, [Clocks
go back one hour]. Time permitting, go for a tour of the
city including a visit to the market, a pottery project,
handicraft shops and the genocide memorial. Transfer to

Gorillas, Wildlife & Chimps
Itinerary
Day 1
Briefing on the safari. Start for Fort Portal via the
town of Mubende set in rolling hills. Picnic lunch en
route and continue to Kibale. Arrive late afternoon.
Relax at lodge or explore nearby crater lake. O/N: Ndali

Day 2
Track the noisy chimps and other primates crashing
around through the high canopy of the forest with
colourful birds squawking nearby. Packed lunch.
Afternoon walk in Bigodi to see swamp birds and see some
of the community projects financed by tourism. O/N:

Day 3
Either a day's walk in the foothills of the Rwenzoris,
one of the great mountain ranges of the world, looking
out for its forbidding peaks in the distance, or drive
straight to QE. The game seen will depend on the season,
the Kasenyi plains are good for lion and the Mweya
peninsula for a variety of animals. O/N: Mweya/Jacana (FB).
Day 4
An excursion to Kyambura Gorge nearby to track the fast
moving and elusive chimpanzees, one of man's closest
relations. The chimp population is quite mobile and
viewing is unpredictable but the walk is enchanting.
Alternatively go for a nature walk in Maramagambo Forest
to see other primates and to visit the Blue Lake. In the
afternoon take a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel
where the wildlife and a vast array of birds come to

Day 5
Start for Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Either drive via
Ishasha, home of the tree climbing lion, roads
permitting, or take the alternative route through
cultivated expanses. Time permitting, go for a short
stroll around the Lodge or explore the village. O/N:

Day 6
Go gorilla tracking (subject to permit availability at
time of booking), walking up steep densely forested
hills before finally coming across the gorillas
